Costituente Terra Movement

THE PROJECT

The political project “Constitution of the Earth” was launched in Rome on 27 December 2019 and the School Costituente Terra was founded a few months later, the February 21, 2020 at the Biblioteca Vallicelliana in the same city.

Through lectures, courses, seminars and training activities, the School aims to foster a new way of thinking that will make world-class constitutionalism possible: not only to affirm rights, but also to realize them through the appropriate guarantees.

The School’s role is not to teach, but to stimulate collective reflection and theoretical imagination regarding the appropriate safeguards and institutions adequate to face global challenges and catastrophes.

Nuestra Historia

“Let history continue” is the goal. To find “a response to the ecological crisis and humanitarian crisis that threatens the life of Earth itself”.

THE PROJECT

Luigi Ferrajoli

Born in Florence in 1940, he is one of the most influential legal scholars and philosophers of law today. A disciple of Norberto Bobbio, he began his career as a judge (1967–1975), an experience that profoundly shaped his thinking on the limits of punitive power and the centrality of guarantees in the rule of law.

He has had an extensive academic career at the University of Camerino and, subsequently, at the Università degli Studi Roma Tre, where he is professor emeritus. His work is characterized by a normative and constitutional approach to law, aimed at protecting fundamental rights through strict controls on political and criminal power.

Among his most important contributions are Diritto e Ragione (1989), a seminal text on criminal procedural guarantees, and Principia Iuris (2007), his general theory of law and democracy, considered one of the most systematic proposals in contemporary constitutionalism. His works have been translated into numerous languages and have exerted a strong influence in Europe and especially in Latin America.

Honored with multiple honorary doctorates, Ferrajoli remains an intellectual leader in debates on constitutional democracy, human rights, normative proportionality, and the role of judges in democratic societies.

AROUND THE WORLD

The Constituent Movement now has various chapters outside Italy, and the discussion is being enriched by the establishment of schools around the world.
